A challenge to myself…

I’ve been thinking a bit lately about going to Daily Mass. I work a weird schedule in that one week I work Wednesday and Thursday only, and the next I have Wednesday and Thursday only off. I know that Sunday is the day of obligation when I need to attend Mass and that Daily Mass is not an obligation. However, given the fact that I am able to attend a weekend Mass only twice a month, I am going to challenge myself to go to Daily Mass ATLEAST once a week if not every time that I am given the chance to do so.

I am wanting to learn so much about my new Church and I really can’t think of any better way than jumping in heart first, feet second, and just surrounding myself with our Lord and His Holy Church! Pray that I am able to accept this challenge. I know it doesn’t seem that hard to do, but trust me, with one kid, another on the way, and the thousand other things that Satan throws at us on a daily basis, things can and sometimes do get a bit more hectic than you would think.

Again, this is just another step I am taking in this journey. I am LOVING every minute of it!

Sundays are a day of obligation, that’s true. It’s stated in the Catechism of the Catholic Church (#2180 and #2181 at http://www.vatican.va/archive/catechism/p3s2c1a3.htm) and plainly in the Bible that we keep holy the Lord’s Day. But also remember that Man was not made for the Sabbath! Talk about it with the pastor. He might suggest the Saturday evening service as a compromise. Primarily, we are obliged to serve the Lord, and Catholics are prone to a little pharasical thought from time to time.

In any measure, I think daily Mass is a nice thing too. I started going to a daily Mass every week since the beginning of the year and it’s been nice– though sometimes the early alarm clock feels pretty darned early!

Yeah, with my work schedule, I work a 7-7 schedule. The weekends that I would miss on Sunday, I would also miss on Saturday night due to Mass beginning at 5:30. :-\

Either way, Father Joe says it’s one of those things where you just have to “do what you can,” which in my case in 2 Sundays a month, late every other Tuesday to RCIA, and daily Mass when I can. :)

    Thanks for the comment!
